APBA (ASEAN Professional Beverage Academy)

The ASEAN Professional Beverage Academy was founded in Bangkok, Thailand in association with international accrediting agencies such as The Wine and Spirits Education Trust and The Sake Sommelier Association among others.

APBA’s mission is to provide the highest level of training in the core areas of :

  • Spirits Education
  • Coffee and Barista
  • Mixology and Flair Bartending
  • Sake and Japanese Liquors
  • Entrepreneurship and Management

A comprehensive curriculum will lead to a certification jointly issued by APBA and the other accrediting agencies.

APBA recognizes the growing demand in the ASEAN region for highly trained professionals to serve its Hospitality Industry where the standards are among the highest in the world and where well rounded professionals will assume leadership positions in the industry and in entrepreneurial initiatives for small and medium business ventures.

APBA programs are designed to train professional and amateurs in a well-rounded and highly academic program of studies with internationally recognized partners. While training in specific skills is provided graduates of APBA are exposed to a wide range of interdisciplinary experiences that allow them to navigate a career or entrepreneurial path in various disciplines such as food and beverage writing, teaching and consulting; sake and wine sommeliers, baristas, mixologists and food bloggers.

APBA’s instructors are the group of professional who have high level of experience in Beverage industry and education.

  • Ron Batori

    Ron Batori (President and Instructor)

    President APBA Born in the San Francisco Bay Area Ron was educated in London, lived in Paris and Norway. Returning to California, Subsequently Ron joined International Distillers and Vintners as Vice President for Market Development in Napa Valley which brought him to Asia for the first time.

    Ron moved to Thailand in 1992 as Managing Director of Ambrose Wine, Wine Consultant for King Power Duty Free and for the last four years as Instructor and President of APBA and Bangkok Beer and Beverages.

    Ron has received many honors and commendations during his career in the wine business. Among his latest is qualifying as a Certified Sake Professional. Ron has now spent 25 years in the wine industry in Thailand and is widely recognized as one of the pioneers in what is now a very sophisticated wine market.

  • Teera Weerawan (Wine and Spirit instructor)

    Teera Weerawan (Wine and Spirit Instructor)

    1987 - Two years after graduated Law from Ramkhamhaeng University, Teera move himself to work in the Passenger cruise business as Sommelier and cruise throughout the world, from California to Alaska, Baja California, Caribbean, North Cape, Baltic sea, Mediterranean, Middle-east and Asia.

    In 2001, he came back to his homeland to start his career with Ambrose wine as - Phuket Brand manager, - Catering Sales Manager, In 2003, he move to Pernod Ricard as - Mentoring Manager, - National Horeca Sales Manager, In 2013 - National Sales Manager for BB&B, Teera is a Guest Lecturer for several Universities teaching wine and spirit before he joined APBA.

  • Suriyod Kalyanavongs (Wine and Sake instructor)

    Suriyod Kalyanavongs (Wine and Sake Instructor)

    Suriyod is graduated from Chulalongkorn Univerity in marketing. After involve in hospitality for several year, he went to Switzerland to obtain his Master Degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Management at University Center Cesar Ritz where he learnt about wine and spirit.

    Suriyod hold the Level 2 certificate pass with distinction in Wines & Spirits from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET UK), Level 1 A+ Australian wine certificate, Certified sake professional from Sake Education council in Japan the Certified Sake Sommelier accreditation from Sake Sommelier Association. Apart from APBA, he has been taught Introduction to Wine Appreciation as visiting faculty at Bangkok University International College since 2013.

WSET qualifications are internationally recognized and are now represented in over 60 countries. The WSET courses have become almost a requirement to be eligible for the prestigious title of Master of Wine.
